Default Upgrade Clean Bow

I just bought a clean storm bow and want to upgrade it, i only don't really know with what type of string/grip combination, so suggestions are welcome.
Keep in mind that i allready have a stinger bow (lengthens poison) and a Shocking Half Moon of Shelter, so the upgrades should complement the bow's i allready have.

TIA

Hello Bassman,

A stormbow is basicly the same as a longbow. Therefore it's best used as a pulling bow, or the bow you equip while making a retreat. Therefore a Defensive (+5 armor; and cheap!) grip is recommended. Or you can go the more expensive fortitude mod (+30 health), altough that's personal taste. Personally I'd go for defensive, especially in pve. The irony is that if you want to sell it, fortitude sells easier probably.

For string, I recommend either Elemental or Poison for a Storm Bow. Poison if you want that pulling shot to lengthen that poison arrow shot.
Which elemental string is debatable. if you have a Conjure Fire ranger, then a fiery string offcourse. If you face rangers/warriors a lot, ebon is, because there is no armor vs earth on a ranger, and it stops the vs physical armor of a warrior.
If you want to sell, sundering seems still wanted. But for playing it yourself, I wouldn't recommend it.

hey there.

I have to disagree with Makkert here. That's the beauty of this game! I don't know if I'd want defensive or fortitude for a bow I plan to use for pulling or long-ranged attacks since I'd have a shortbow to switch to should I find myself too close to melee combat.

I'd consider putting on marksmanship and sundering or an elemental string for bows that I plan to use for long ranged purposes only.

So you have two different opinions

I think either a grip of fortitude or defence is the way to go as both offer added protection, i use a grip of fortitude for my longbow and a defensive one for my half-moon as the +5 armour is a help when your in melee range. But then thats just me!

As for strings i don't really like elemental damage as many enemy's can negate their effects, and i don't like vampiric or zealous as i can't deal with constant energy/health loss. So sundering is my string of choice, extra armour penetration is always a bonus although its a 1 in 10 chance or something? and they are the most expensive!! But really its all down to preference si i guess they all have their uses

Depends on the use. If it's your pulling bow, I'd go for 5/-1 Vampiric. You'd switch it for about 1 second, that's 1 life loss and 5 dmg extra. Also Marksmanship is nice for pulling.

You could always go poison string, and poison arrow on your pulling shot. The enemy will be running towards you all the while dying from poison. Grips... well, if you have good monks you dont need shelter or defense, and you dont really get a lot out of 30 HP. Me personally, I get grips of slaying for the area Im in. Sure this doesnt always work, but during the shiverpeaks, both north and south, it comes in handy to have dwarfslaying. Up in kryta, deathbane or skeleton slaying is also not bad. Sundering really is pointless considering you have a armor penetrating shot for a skill.
